Official Cleaning Guide for a Laboratory Balance

The higher the resolution of the balances, the greater the risk of compromised weighing accuracy because of contamination from smaller amounts of leftover residue.

Cleaning your lab instruments can be a part of your daily routine or validation process. When it comes to laboratory balances, the higher the resolution of the balances, the greater the risk of compromised weighing accuracy because of contamination from smaller amounts of leftover residue. This could directly impact the outcome of the weighing results and the quality of all your samples. However, users will usually feel insecure about how you should clean the balances correctly. Recent developments deal with this issue with the new Cubis II Ultra-High Resolution Balances, made by Sartorius. Both hardware technology and software design were optimized, making this cleaning process more accessible, safer, and efficient. Read on to learn more!

For Daily Cleaning of Laboratory Balances

You need to do a few things to keep your device clean consistently. For preparation, put the balance in standby mode. Then remove the tools from your cleaning kit, part of your package. We recommend using water or 70% ethanol to prepare paper tissues and cleaning reagents. For balance disassembly and cleaning, remove the weighing pan, clean it off with a brush, and reinsert it. Wipe the base plate off with a soft brush or wet tissue to help make sure there aren’t any residues left in this space.

Extensive Cleaning: How to Schedule Your In-Depth Device Cleaning

Put the balance into standby mode for preparation, then remove the tools from your cleaning kit. Prepare paper tissues and cleaning reagents. Dissaamslbe all the removable parts of the balance. First, unclip the display from the base and slide it towards yourself for enough space. Remove the draft shields: 1 for the front shield, two left and right draft shields, and 3 for the upper draft shields. Then remove the weighing pan and base plate.

For balance cleaning, clean the removed parts and the balance itself using wet tissues and the tools from the cleaning kit. Remember to collect larger amounts of liquid or powder using tissues, brushes, or forceps. Try to push the samples into the corners of your weighing chambers to avoid them entering any openings. Metal parts could even be cleaned in the dishwasher. For balance reassembly, ensure all the parts are dried thoroughly. Then reassemble in this order:

  1. Base plates and weighing pans
  2. Upper draft shield, the right and left draft, and the front panel
  3. The display
